#103 The Milk Cleanser I am hooked on - Isntree Yam Root Vegan Milk Cleanser
It hit every every cream cleanser requirement on the spot - texture, price and volume
Milk and cream cleansers are not as popular and they are certainly not as easily available locally. I get it, the weather is hot and humid, any non-sudsy cleansers that goes onto dry skin are only appealing to a small niche of the consumer pie and the cleansing experience will never be as satisfying as splashing water to take off a foamy face wash, just like what the 90’s Neutrogena-splash-water commercials has very successfully educated us on cleansing should be. The closest to perfection gentle cleanser that I’ve tried recently was Skin Rocks The Cream Cleanser but the price and delivery cost is prohibitive for constant repurchase. Anyway, Skin Rocks comes second after the very missed discontinued Clarins Comfort Cleansing Cream. So, I bought Isntree Yam Root Vegan Milk Cleanser out of curiosity and this is an absolute banger.
Brand says: A mild vegan milk cleanser with Andong yam extract gently dissolves makeup and impurities without leaving the skin feeling stripped.
This is a very lovely product. The texture is a dense milk, between a balm and a cream which allows you to glide and massage without any greasiness. Lathering a generous amount onto the skin provides instant comfort. Now, size is everything for any cleanser that don’t foam or lather up. You’ll need more product as compared to other cleanser textures like gel or foamy face wash. Isntree Yam Root Vegan Milk Cleanser comes in 220ml instead of 100ml and a fraction of Skin Rocks’ price!
I don’t use it to remove makeup and only reserve it for morning or second cleanse. I’m sure it will destroy light makeup and sunscreen, but I still prefer a balm or an oil - entirely personal preference. Given the rather loose texture, I thought the product wouldn’t provide sufficient cushion when paired with a wash cloth. It worked out absolutely fine! – there’s no over-exfoliation and my skin wasn’t irritated. My preference is still to rinse the product off in shower with cold water after a light massage. If you are a flannel person and you have very sensitised skin, I’ll go with a fluffy cotton or a thin muslin cloth – milk cleansers usually don’t have the grip of a cleansing balm and can just add further aggravation to the skin. The instruction also says it could be emulsified with water. I am not entirely sure if this is the right word. It is not turning an oil to a milk so I don’t really get where the emulsification action is. Adding a splash of water will indeed loosen the texture a little and helps the product to get off the skin if you are one who chooses to rinse off.
I don’t notice any scent with this product. A quick check on the incl didn’t find any fragrance.
