Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub has been my holy grail for years. This is my third tub now. It is basically a sea salt scrub and shampoo combined that provides exfoliation the scalp and remove product built up on the scalp and hair. There’s increasingly more options in this category but this is the only product that I come back to time to time.
Brand says: This deep cleansing shampoo refreshes sensitive or oily scalps and removes daily build-up, helping to calm the sensation of itchy scalps. Used once a week or post-colouring, its exfoliating and soothing properties help the scalp to feel rebalanced and purified, leaving hair looking beautifully fresh and shiny.
I only require a teaspoon to create a massive lather. That said, a huge tub, though extremely expensive during the initial splurge, will easily last me almost a year with twice a week use! It all starts with damp hair. As when the water from the damp hair get mixed into the salt scrub, the paste slowly loosen up to create a lather. Just by simply adding a bit more water, it forms a rich creamy bubble.
Unavoidably, the sea salt will strip the hair and make dry hair drier. The formulation added Bisabolol to calm the scalp as it cleanses. The downside of purified and deeply cleansed scalp is often dry ends. This trade-off I am willing to invest – slightly tangled dry-ends in return for thoroughly cleansed, refreshed-feeling scalp. If the dry ends really bother me as much, an added conditioner/hair masks step would have solve all the issues.
Who is the range for?
This product/range is for you if you uses a lot of nourishing products, have oily scalp, constantly experiencing itchy scalp and felt that at a point, your regular shampoo lost its oomph.
The entire range has this refreshing marine scent profile that do not linger much but contributes collectively towards the cleansing experience.
Purifying Shampoo with Thermal Mud
Brand says: A daily shampoo to banish build-up, smooth and protect. This detoxifying shampoo deeply cleanses the hair and scalp to reduce the damaging effects of pollution for a clean refreshing feeling.
I vaguely remember when I was first introduced to this range, the shampoo’s liquid was clear in colour. Now it’s a muddy blue hue, which makes much more sense with the inclusion of mud (balance and purify oily scalp and sensation of oily roots) and Baltic Sea red algae which smooths the cuticle and extends the length of time between washes. I was initially skeptical about the brand indicating this could be a daily shampoo, thinking that it will end up become overly stripping – I was wrong. The formulation is elegant and they clearly understand what an oily scalp require – a thorough cleanse, while maintaining a balanced, hydrated and soothed scalp. I know some chaps like to wash their hair every single shower (say twice per day) an I very often do that as well. The humidity and sweat just justify the wash frequency, however I wouldn’t use this shampoo twice in a day – firstly, the price is prohibitive, secondly, its simply too much. I like to alternate with a more generic supermarket shampoo, one without bells and whistles.
Purifying Conditioner Gelee with Sea Minerals
Brand says: A conditioner formulated to detangle, hydrate and soothe the scalp and dry ends. This light gelée conditioner instantly detangles as it glides through roots and lengths, improving the appearance of dry hair for a smoother, sleeker finish.
I don’t like this. Its not precisely a gelee – its just a loose, runny lotion texture conditioner that slips away too much and takes a long time to work into the hair. If you have dry ends, you will need to allow the product the product to sit for at least a good 10-15 minutes to detangle and run your fingers through. This is simply impractical and require too much use of products. Any ordinary cheap conditioners would have done a much more brilliant job.
