This March to May, I unboxed around 5 sunscreens from my stash - Don’t ask me why, I lost my mind!
There’s just too much options consumer is spoilt with. It seems sunscreen technology has progressed every few months and there will be a more advanced sun filter out in the market, or an improved formulation entering the market. Thick and gunky sunscreen stereotype is no longer relevant – an old-fashioned sun cream that clog your pores and makes you feel suffocating is actually difficult to find now – I mean if you insist of purchasing one of those nostalgic looking Banana Boat sunscreen from the 90s, its entirely your choice.
Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sunscreen impressed me big time – one of the earlier Kbeauty brand I was introduced to; I’ve not seen as much publicity as they deserve to. In Malaysia, they used to be available in Watsons (a large local chemist for readers out of the Southeast Asia), but I supposed with the army of Korean sunscreen coming into the market at a price war has made competition too steep to survive. I’ve lost track who are the official distributors so I can’t reliably provide information. I know Cult Beauty still stock them. I went to Korea recently and I don’t think I’ve seen them anywhere, perhaps they are focusing on the western market like many of the k-beauty brands do.
What is this product?
Brand says: Sun Project Water Sun Cream is a hydrating sunscreen designed for balanced to dry & dehydrated skins. Offering a protection factor of SPF50+ PA+++, it applies smoothly leaving a dewy finish with no white cast.
The product is brilliantly named – the sunscreen texture is of light cream but feels like a gel moisturiser upon getting onto the skin. Brand indicated that the sunscreen is designed for balanced to dry and dehydrated skins. I would argue that oilier skin types may also enjoy it.
Active ingredient: Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Homosalate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Octocrylene
The PA rating, which stands for “Protection Grade of UVA”, is more commonly noted in Asian sunscreens. This is a rating system developed in Japan to represent how much UVA protection a product offers. So, PA with 3 +s means high protection. The highest I’ve seen is with 4+s.
How does my skin feel?
Like most Korean sunscreen, the elegance of the texture is beyond. The texture is ultra lightweight and settled into nothing. I literally felt nothing, zero greasiness – that’s an important factor to encourage proper sunscreen wear/sufficient amount in humid weather. I wore the sunscreen to work out and it pass the sweat test, my eyes did not sting!
Was there any white cast?
There’s a dewy finish, but no white cast – this is a chemical/organic sunscreen. I’ve fair Asian skin, so this may be a little different if you are more olive and beyond in the colour scale. I posted a reel on my Instagram trying the product, please head over and send me some love.
Fragranced?
Very slightly and barely noticeable.
Would I recommend?
100% - I would repurchase and recommend wholeheartedly.
