#83 Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics
the holy grail K-sunscreen that justified its hype!
I am so late to the Beauty of Joeson game. The brand was (and still is) recommended by every single influencer, chemist and dermatologist you can find on social media. What’s make me even more intrigued is that, there seems to have no negative comments at all about Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics SPF 50+ PA ++++. I was still skeptical and I couldn’t hold on any further that I need to try this extremely hyped and even sounded evangelical product. Note that I still have like 45340230 sunscreens in my stash that I don’t need another new sunscreen currently. The spoiler alert ! – I am fully onboard with the cult-ish status of this sunscreen.
Brand says: Relief Sun is a lightweight and creamy type organic sunscreen that's comfortable on skin. Even if you apply a large amount several times, it is not sticky and gives a moist finish like that of a light moisturizing cream. Containing 30% rice extract and grain fermented extracts, it provides moisture and nourishment to the skin.
I was in the UK last year and I wanted to try out as much UK/European sunscreen knowing that I could get Beauty of Joeson back home easily and at a way cheaper price – it was literally 3x the price in the UK last summer (2023).
I did a trial on my Instagram here.
This is how the skin finish looks like under natural lighting with no filter on
What makes it a cult product?
Newer sunscreen filter: Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol, Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone. These are newer sunscreen filters you cannot find in US sunscreens particularly.
Organic / Chemical sunscreen: there’s no/limited white cast and therefore suitable for most people.
Texture: it feels like hydrating gel moisturiser, zero greasiness, very hydrating - useful for oilier skin and still sufficiently nourished for drier skin types. The texture somehow felt appropriate on all weather, from the lowest to the highest humidity and temperature.
Look and feel – does not sting my eyes, wash off relatively easy with my usual double cleanse and I felt extremely comfortable wearing
Unfragranced: lesser chances of sensitivity and irritability.
Price: relatively affordable and much cheaper than a lot of brands in the market, consider all of the pros listed above.
Added skincare benefits: 30% rice extract, rice germ extract, as well as three probiotic rice ferments, which are rich in Vitamins B, C and E. Rice, as an ingredient plays an important roles in east Asian and Hanbang skincare, it is often used for moisturising and soothing effects. Niacinamide and Glycerin
Testing disclosure: the product is tested based on two independent labs in Korea and Spain – which I supposed provide added assurance after the Purito sunscreen incident in 2020.
There’s a sister product called Moist Sun Serum which I am now very interested to try on.
