#71 Dr. Dennis Gross Dark Spot Sun Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50
and this week beauty news on Shiseido set to acquire Dr Dennis Gross
Have you heard the news that Shiseido was set to acquire Dr Dennis Gross brand for $450million! You might already do if you are into beauty as much I do. Shiseido released in its public statement said “As a derma cosmetics, doctor-led brand Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare strengthens our position in a rapidly growing skincare segment” and “Driving growth and profitability in a critical market in the Americas business”
I am really curious in how Shiseido would bring Dr Dennis Gross to the next level. Dr Dennis Gross, as brand is so ‘New Yorker’ - founded by the famous Dr Dennis Gross himself, science-backed, extremely functional, chic and straight to the point skincare; what would the Japanese influence be?
PS: we all know the parent company don’t leave the acquired brands alone, they somehow evolved into better (like Jo Malone London Cologne) or the worst before they get discontinued.
Dr. Dennis Gross Dark Spot Sun Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50
Now, I believe this sunscreen is already reformulated and it’s called All-Physical Ultimate Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50. If you are reading this post as a reference point when you are considering your purchase, fret not - they are texture are almost identical, if not better.
Sunscreen is all about texture - as the saying goes, the best sunscreen is the sunscreen you’d want to wear and will consistently wear the. Whether you are team chemical or team physical sunscreen - regardless, the cosmetic elegance of the sunscreen influences how much and how often one put on the sunscreen and therefore how well the skin is being protected.
What is it?
Brand says: Dark Spot Sun Defense is an all-physical facial sunscreen that helps prevent damage from UVA/UVB rays and protect against photo-aging without the use of chemical filters
This is a very lightweight and hydrating physical sunscreen featuring Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide as the main sunscreen filter. The ‘dark spot’ correction mainly comes from the brand’s Mela-C complex, which is three forms of Vitamin C and one form of Vitamin E. I wouldn’t rely purely on a sunscreen to miraculously treat dark spots (why would I?!), but using a sunscreen diligently would prevent any further damage, i.e. hyperpigmentation worsen!
What is the texture?
This sunscreen has the most elegant textured physical sunscreen I’ve ever used. This cream sunscreen glides through the skin very easily like an expensive emollient rich moisturiser, except there’s no emollient or greasiness towards it. I find most physical sunscreen on the market a tad thicker and drier (no matter how much the brand boast on nano technology) and therefore needs some effort to work it in - this is not your type of sunscreen.
What is the finish on the skin?
There’s some noticeable white cast on my fair skin. I wouldn’t mind that I look a little paler than usual. If I am wearing a foundation, this would be a perfect tone-up complexion.
I’d advise if you have olive, or anywhere darker skin tone, test it out in store in possible. This is not a product to blind buy, unless you really don’t mind the cast.
Would I recommend?
Yes, of course ! 100% In fact this is the only physical sunscreen that I’d actually recommend. I’d love to prove myself wrong whenever there’s a better product out there, especially on the high street.
