I love Kate Sommerville as a brand, they are very reliable. I’ve literally have not found a product that I don’t know. The price is prohibitively expensive for me and the average person, but given the efficacy and how well the formulations are, I think they are justifiable splurge once in a while. They also never goes on sale, so I’ll make sure to make full good use out of each product that I’ve bought so far.
Obviously the serums and the creams are going to the expensive product category, starting with the cleansers is a good entry point. I love the Gentle Daily Wash and Goat Milk Moisturising Cleanser for everyday use as a rinse-off cleanser in the shower and ExfoliaKate Daily Foaming Wash for the extra boost during the hot and sweaty days.
The DeliKate franchise
As the name cheekily suggest is for the delicate skin. Simple terms – sensitised skin that is sore, patchy, irritated, red, inflamed, you name it – skin not at its best days. There is a serum and a cream in the same range but I’ve try neither of them yet.
Brand says: DeliKate® is a collection of skin recovery creams, serums and cleansers that are designed to help revive irritated and stressed skin. Clinically formulated with dermatologist tested safe ingredients such as peptide complex and ceramides, our DeliKate® skincare products are proven to deliver transformative results that’ll provide you with long lasting relief. Whether you want to relieve visible redness, soothe burning and tightness, or generally improve your skin's protective barrier, the Kate Somerville DeliKate® collection is perfect for treating all skin types.
Well, this statement wrapped up perfectly who is it for and when do you need it:
Brand says: I use this cleanser in the clinic when a client’s skin is completely stressed or we’ve done a peel. If you’ve got compromised skin, this will help calm irritation while cleansing
DeliKate Soothing Cleanser
Similar to the serum and the cream, the key incl highlights are:
Ginger Root Extract (visible redness)
Cucumber Seed Oil, Soybean Complex and Tasmannia Lanceolata Fruit Extract (calming and soothing)
Amino Acid Derivative, Peptide Complex and three Ceramides (barrier support)
Brand says: A breakthrough clinical recovery cleanser that helps relieve visible redness, burning, tightness & itching while restoring skin’s protective barrier.
What does it do?
A cleanser is a cleanser – there’s nothing fancy other than it does the job to clean the skin. This is when texture plays an important role as that’s impacting user experience – do you want to use it often? When skin is extremely sore and irritated, I supposed most people wouldn’t pile on heavy make-up. So its perfect if you want to double cleanse with it – shall do all good at removing SPF, grim and make-up even as a single step. I’ve tested this product as someone with drier and very dehydrated skin, this is a second / skin cleanser to me.
What is the texture / How does it feel on my skin
Runny lotion (borderline) cream, upon in contact with the skin, have a thirst quenching effect. It is a cleanser that is great when the face is literally sore. It somehow has the feeling of infusing spring water (it does not!) to skin that is already on fire. It provides the essentials to a sore skin – cooling and calming.
The lightweight texture has great moveability, hence great for massaging, but it is obviously unwise for excessive massage if skin is already irritated or sore. The cleanser upon in contact with skin feels like one of those cool, cream cleansers I’ve experienced in treatment room.
The instruction says goes on damp skin, I prefer it on dry skin. I do agree that rinse off is the best method to remove this cleanser, especially when skin is already irritated, one don’t need that extra exfoliation and aggravation from a face cloth. It rinses off completely skin without any residue. Unlike a cleansing balm, this cleanser is not dense, unless mechanical exfoliation is your purpose, I will rinse off with just cool, tepid water.
Fragranced?
No, as it should be for a product designed specifically for sensitised skin.
Would I repurchase?
Yes and No. Yes from a product functionality point - it is best suited when skin is on fire. For every day, I love other cleansers from the brand, especially Gently Daily Wash and Eradikate Daily Foaming Wash.
Given it is a cream cleanser, I get through a lot more than an ordinary cleanser since there is no suds and foam. It’s not the most economical option if you are looking forward to save some quid on skincare.
Cleanser and moisturisers (the book ends) are the best categories to save. I would personally invest my budget on a well-formulated treatment products and they are usually in the serum category.
Also can I say, I absolutely love the pastel purple tube. The packaging is so gorgeously done.
